Terms of use
Last updated 19 September 2026
These terms are the agreement between you and AskFRED Inc. for the Chit app. They are short on purpose. By installing or using Chit you accept them.
What you get
A personal, non-transferable licence to use Chit on devices you own or control, for as long as these terms are kept. The app is licensed to you, not sold. We keep ownership of the app itself; you keep ownership of everything you write in it.
What Chit costs
Writing on the pad, seats, courses, history and your own shorthand are free and stay free. Handwriting recognition is free for your first 30 tickets. After that, recognition needs a subscription.
- Chit, one year. $6.99 for 12 months, charged once.
- The subscription renews automatically for the same period at the same price unless you turn renewal off at least 24 hours before the current period ends.
- Your store account is charged when you confirm the purchase, and again on each renewal.
- Manage or cancel renewal in your Apple App Store or Google Play account settings. Deleting the app does not cancel a subscription.
- If you let a subscription lapse, the pad keeps working and every ticket you already wrote stays on your phone and stays readable. Only new handwriting recognition stops.
Prices are in US dollars and may differ by store and region. Refunds are handled by Apple or Google under their own policies, not by us.
Your tickets are yours
Everything you write stays on your phone. We cannot see it, cannot recover it, and will never ask for it. That also means the tickets are yours to look after: if you lose the phone without a backup, we have no copy to restore. See the privacy policy for exactly what the app does and does not send.
What Chit is not
Chit is a writing pad that reads your handwriting. It is not a point-of-sale system, it does not send orders to a kitchen, and it is not connected to your restaurant's systems in any way.
Handwriting recognition is a best effort and it will sometimes be wrong. Check the typed reading before you rely on it. You are responsible for what you key into your restaurant's systems and for what reaches a guest, including allergy and dietary notes. Do not use Chit as the only record of anything that matters to someone's safety.
Fair use
Do not resell or redistribute the app, take it apart to extract its parts, or use it to break the law. That is the whole list.
Ending the agreement
You can stop at any time by deleting the app. We can end this licence if these terms are broken. If we ever discontinue Chit we will say so on this site, and the app will keep working on phones that already have it for as long as the operating system allows.
Warranty and liability
Chit is provided as is, without warranties of any kind, to the fullest extent the law allows. To the extent permitted by law, our total liability for any claim relating to the app is limited to what you paid us for it in the previous 12 months. Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law, and some jurisdictions do not allow these limits, in which case they do not apply to you.
Apple and Google
Apple and Google are not parties to this agreement and are not responsible for the app. Apple has no obligation to provide support for Chit. If the app fails to conform to any warranty that applies, you may tell Apple and Apple may refund the purchase price; beyond that, Apple has no other warranty obligation for the app. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and may enforce them against you. You confirm you are not located in a country subject to a US Government embargo or designated as terrorist-supporting, and are not on any US Government restricted-parties list.
Changes
If these terms change, the date at the top changes with them and the new text is here. Continuing to use Chit after a change means accepting it.
Law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia, USA, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules, except where the law of your home country says otherwise and cannot be overridden.
